Tiling half a wall - large format tiles

Hi

I'm going to be tiling a wall in a bathroom with large ceramic tiles (600 x 300 mm). The tiles are going on to plasterboard (unplastered) and so I am OK with the weight limit ....just. The tiles come to about 28 kg/m2 so with adhesive I should be just under the 32kg limit.

The top half of the walls are going to be plastered and I am planning on putting batons on the wall at the tile height for the plasterer to skim up to and then tile after. This will give me a nice straight plaster edge to tile up up.

The thing is I will want the tiles to stop exactly at the plaster which means tiling from the top down. Will this work for tiles this big...they weight about 4kg each? I currently have some Mapei kerraflex left over from another job but can change to a quick set if this will help?

i would tile first and get the plasterer to be careful not to damage the trim when plastering up to it. the pink will only be 2/3 mm so it'll look fine

I hate tiling down with any tile let alone large format so id plaster after too

Edit: That seems really heavy for a ceramic, what thickness are they?

I need to tile around the bath so have the tile after the bath is in. I'm getting the ceiling skimmed and various other bits plastered in the bathroom at the same time and really wanted to avoid having the plasterer clambering all over the new bath/sink etc, hence why I was hoping to get the plasterer in first.

why not leave the bath and the row of tiles above it out till the plastering and painting is finished?

I could do. I'm just trying to juggle the plasterer and plumber who are both busy and can only come on certain days. If tiling down is definitely out then maybe I will have to rethink.

it would be very difficult for the best of tilers to tile right up to the plaster lip with a full tile. a couple of mill short and you're filling or a couple of mill over and you'll be chipping the plaster away. for the best finish plaster after i.m.o.

Why dos'nt the plasterer feather the plaster down slightly past where the tile line will be.

Thats what I ask plasterers to do in this situation.

you would need to do a row at a time and place batons below every row while it sets with tiles that heavy they will slide down wall unless supported so tiling is going to take a whole lot longer to do this way

plaster it 1st,just plaster a bit below the tile line,feather it in,will be easier for everyone involved.

Plaster 1st for me too.
