tiling of new bathroom

Hi,
We have just had a new bathroom extension built. It is going to be fully tiled. My question is should it be plastered before tiling or will it make any difference if we just put the tiles straight onto the plasterboard.
Any help or advice very greatfully appreciated.

hi mate, best to tile straight onto plasterboard rather than plastered plasterboard. The reason being that bare plasterboard can carry 32kg per square metre, whereas plastered plasterboards will only bear 20kg per square metre

If you are going to fully tile it then skimming it out will be a waste of money...as doug sez , also a better surface to tile too...

Any idea what size tiles and type of tile you will be using, we can advise what materials to stick em on with..

you might also want to look at tanking the shower area.

Tile direct onto the plasterboard perfect substrate, why anyone would want to put an uneven hand finish on a perfectly flat machine finished surface always surprises me.

Not often that the best option is the cheapest. :hurray::hurray::hurray:
In reponse to comments - we are using cheap "white bumpy" 8"x 8" ceramic tiles from Whickes.
Also what is "tanking".

Tanking of wetrooms and wet shower areas are becoming more and more popular. Wetroom waterproofing, or "tanking", fully seals the wetroom area prior to tiling. This contains any water that seeps between tiles, allowing it to drain down towards the wetroom floor drain. Wetrooms are normally thought of as shower areas, but many bathrooms, kitchens or toilet areas can also be treated in the same way. Installation of a wetroom drain at the lowest point, together with wetroom tanking, provides a continuous seal from walls and floor to the drain. This being a very attractive proposition for any wet area.
