tiling on chipboard

customer has asked me to tile straight onto chipboard flooring but i am not sure if this is a good idea,any help please.

Its not a good idea at all but if you read adhesive manufacturers notes then you will see that they say it can be done. Chipboard is just that....wood made from chippings and once moisture gets onit it will become unreliable. Best method IMO is to overboard with backer boards but 1st make sure the floor is structurally sound, ie no deflection/bounce.

as above, use hardie backer board, other option is to remove chipboard and lay 25mm wbp ply

How wide are the chipboard boards and is it a bathroom or kitchen and is it onto joists or a floating floor.

i agree, make the floor solid. add noggins underneath if and movement then overbpard with hardi 6mm boards then id use mapei keraquick with latex

remember a couple of years back on an extension i was plastering,bloke was tiling straight on chipboard floor in b/room with 2 partflexi.when i questions his methods he said it says its ok itsays so onbag.I wouldntdo it personally,seen old boards curling at joints not worth risk.

As per TJ, is it an upstairs floor or large floating floor area? You have some very different prep work and potential senarios depending on what you are dealing with.

Personally, overboarding is my preference but additional work may be required too.
