tiling on painted walls

Hello everyone, I guess you will have answered this gem a billion times but....
a bathroom has one course of 600 x 300 tiles around it, above these is plasterboard painted with emulsion paint. He now wants full height tiling all around - what to do with the walls to ensure they will hold more 600 x 300 porcs ??? Thanks y'all keep having a great year. David.

You have to remove the paint Bud and that will take time. Is there no chance of just changing the boards for new? at least you can make sure they are fixed right especially with the weight you are going to be putting on.

paint directly applied to plasterboard is extremely difficult to remove without tearing the paper, better to remove and reline the room, then you won't be worrying about it failing....... Agree with Diamond

As Diamond says, sorry but you can't take chances with large format tiles. Good luck

The trouble with plasterboard is some people just apply two thick coats of emulsion directly to the board without even a sealer/mist coat and in a few years time can even start to peel.

Remove as much as possible.
