Tiling on Plasterboard

Have just started on my Daughters bathroom. Its a very old flat,removed old tiles from one wall, and a lot of old lave and plaster came away, I decided to put up plasterboard the wall is 10 x 8 feet, I have screwed the plasterboard to upright joists ,screws every 30 apart, and it feels very secure.
I am going to retile the wall with Porcelain tiles 400 x400, do I need to bond the plasterboards , before tiling,and I was going to use a self mixing white powder adhesive for Porcelain. Am I going about this the correct way. Any feedback would be very welcome.

Sounds spot on. Just make sure your tiles/adhesive/grout weight doesn't exceed 32kg per m2. (I'm assuming the boards aren't skimmed)

No they are not skimmed,what do you think about putting a bonding on the boards.

No bonding needed, straight onto the boards.

Check that it's flat, some of the old studs were a bit bowed but the lime mortor flattened out kept that fact hidden..

Also, you will need a flexible adhesive for porcelain tiles. I find that priming the plasterboard helps keep the wall clean and will also give you a bit more protection from possible ettringite crystalisation if the cement reacts with the gypsum in the board.

Good point from Grumpy, also make sure the adhesive you use has porcelbond in it. (there are some adhesives that aren't suitable for porcelain, BAL CTF3 for example)

Porcelbond... it is just basicly polymer modified... a posh term used by an adhesive comp..:lol:

Porcelbond is a made up word to make it sound posh and make it very clear that that adhesive is suitable for porcelain. What ever brand of adhesive you use, just make sure when you buy it that it is suitable for porcelain

So do you mean an addy with the "porcelbond" logo on it then....(;0)

No if it has the Porcelbond logo on it (with a TM after it I might add :lol it would be BAL, I dont like BAL much so wouldnt recommend it. Not that I dont like the product, just dont see how they can charge that much by making up names for chemicals.
