Tiling on to bonding?????

Went to a job on Saturday, and the walls were a mess. Told the bloke I was doing the job for and he promised to get them sorted for me. Anyway he phones me and says its good to go for tomorrow. Now that means 1.5cm depth of plaster has dried in 3 days, and I am pretty sure he mentioned the words its been done out with bonding. Now this bloke knows my thoughts on bonding, and any prep work. But I was wondering what you guys think. is tiling onto binding ok, or is it just me being up my self.

You will find most if not all manufacturers recommend not to tiling directly to any gypsum undercoats.

You could prime it to death until no more suction the it would probably be fine. I done a job about 5 year ago on to bonding and is still fine. Choice is yours

And Bonding plaster will take a damn side more than 3 days to dry out

Good point Rob, bonding is recommended at a thickness of 8mm.

I asked for plaster board, and i know it will still be damp, and i know if it goes pear shape, it will come back on only me. Looks like my weekend starts tomorrow morning then.

Bonding expands when it gets wet,, it is very unresistant to moisture and damp. It is no where near as good as a cement based background.

I wouldn't tile to that.
As stated with the depth, scrape off the bonding & dryline the wall with PB..

Just thought,to save you knocking the Bonding off could you not Dot and Dab onto the bonding.....but then your probably not supposed to do that either!(You could use Finish plaster for your d&d????)

why not drywall adheisive ?

Because I was not sure if you put Dri. Wall onto Bonding plaster. D&D with finish plaster seemed theoretically logical,maybe not technically correct. I have seen it done,I had to remove a pb wall that had been done with d&D with finish plaster had it had a better hold than any Dri wall adh I have seen.This could be largely irrelevant if there is nottthe mm to do it. So it could be just the case that the walls will have to be skimmed and left to cure.

All sorted in the end the guy saw sense, knocked it all off and dry lined it.
