Tiling on wallpaper

Hi
I want to fully tile a bathroom which has wall paper coated in water proof paint on plasterboard. Can I tile straight on this surface? Or will I have to remove paper and possibly damage plasterboard. Your input would be most welcome. Including advice on removing paper if needs be.

It must be removed and if it damages the plasterboard, then so be it. You may find it quicker just to remove the plasterboard and re-sheet!

as above its only a fiver a sheet unless you go down the backer board route if your using a large format tile for instance?

Tiling on to wallpapaer is a big no no!

For the amount of effort you could put into removing the paper,id be looking to remove/replace the plasterboard.Plus new unskimmed board increases your weight limits,so you have a wider choice of tiles to use.

As above^ consider the size off your tiles for the weight issue and if it is in a wet area then replacing plasterboard with a tile backer board would be worth considering too!

as above remove all the plasterboard and re sheet far quicker and relatively inexpensive

It looks a mess, seems a bit destructive, but as above, just remove the plaster board.
It's no big deal and is quite therapeutic!
