Yes, it will hold a higher kg per square metre than skimmed board too

Yes much better not skim it it holds 33kg when you plaster it only holds 20kg and you don't have to prime it

super, thanks. I went into a tiling store the other week and asked, they said it 'wouldnt' hold bigger tiles, however my plasterer said otherwise so i thought id check with you lads, you know best.

No need unless any visible gypsum showing but use an acrylic primer not pva...

im a plumber/gas engineer by trade and ive come across from the plumbers forum. Im re doing my mums bathroom but dont tile normally but im going to give it a go. I have no excuse for getting it wrong, as i have got the four walls of the bathroom near perfect ply wood behind the plasterboard for fixings and making the studs more rigid any tips are apprciated but to be honest the only thing im worried about is the tiling the floor.

thanks pjc, why do you prime anyway?? is it something to do with the adhesive losing its moisture into the wall surface to quick or something like that?

the floor will be chipboard, with a layer of 3/8 ply covering it nailed every 100mm unless you lads suggest otherwise

and going back to the primer?? 2 opinions on here, which is the correct one?

Only prime plaster you can plasterboard but don't need to its a chemical reaction with plaster and cement if you use bucket adhesive some you don't need to prime but we wouldn't recommend ready mix adhesive even for your mum

3/8 ply isn't thick enough IMO you have to screw the chipboard to the joists then seal the ply underneath and edges with say sbr screw the ply down 300 centres then use a single part rapid flex adhesive

was going to use a raped set flex adhesive, not ready mix, as the tiles will likely be the large variety

Avoid chipboard, use minimum 15mm WBP ply. Always use screws too and not nails. Personally I'd overboard with cement board too but it's not essential.

Good on the floor but I would use standard flexi on the walls will give you more time

The walls are fine. You need to make sure the floor is completely deflection free. Is the chipboard down already?

deflection free?? it is chipboard floor boarded in 18mm x 600mm wide boards. Ive just replaced a few of them because the last bathroom the tiles had just been tiled to the chipboard floor, it ended up a right mess.
