righto folks quick question

just quoted a 20m2 bathroom with existing 150 X 150 tiles with a lathe and plaster wall substrate, room will have bath only as advised that its better with pan and sink out

did the tap test and no voids that i can see and walls seem solid as old victorian house

advised punter to rip off and retile onto wall but that would incur costs re bonding and skimming to make good

they didnt fancy this option due to costs etc so i said i could do the tiling but with no guarantee that the tiles wouldnt come off the wall to which they have agreed

now, whats the best way to do this as i have never directly tiled onto tiles and also the best addy or sticky for the job

can i use dispersion or must it be powder

do i need to scrub with sugar soap and dry first

do i need to score the existing tiles

cmon dave see if you can be the first to reply lol

also i dont use bal as helluva dear imo so what other stuff

got a choice of

sontex rs2 from ceramic tile warehouse
granfix rapidset from tile it all
dunlop rapidset from tilemania

or can i use sticky as its my preferred option as cant be arsed mixing lol

cheers for the replies that will undoubtably arrive in their millions lol

kindest regards

andy

Andy mate, you might want to check up on weight limits for lathe and plaster walls before tiling onto tiles with this substrate. Don't know what it is myself of the top of my head.

If proves to be ok, you would need to wash with sugar soap and best probably to use flexy adhesive, though BAL say white star is ok. Can't advise on other makes as I haven't used them apart from Ardex and that is a bit pricey too.

Done loads of these type jobs and bucket gear is fine. Bal, Nicobond, Biscem take your choice. As others have stated clean the walls first and dry off. i usually do ity in the same day, just dry the walls with a cloth before tiling. Never had a problem although if the walls are not flat then using bucket gear makes building out the new tiles a bit risky. You will also find setting times will be longer too so maybe leave a day inbetween tiling and grouting at least.
