tiling ontop of chipboard

Hi all just in the process of doing the bathroom and Ensuite up, have a couple of questions which i need answers to, 1,we would like a tiled floor in both rooms, but currently have 18mm chipboard flooring, the floor need to be pulled up and plumbing reworked etc, would it be ok to re-screw new 18mm marine or suitable plywood down instead of replacing the chipboard, obviously being a chippy this is not a problem or would it be better to re-fit the chipboard and then put 18mm plywood down on top, the building is 25 years old, 2, could someone recommend a suitable underfloor heating system for the same, it would be used just to take the chill off the tiles as we already have Central heating installed, anyhelp would be appreciated. thanks jules.

You have the right idea mate.. but personaly i would use 22mm on the joists and add extra noggins at 400 centres to add strength.. then tile onto that ..

As for ufh then try Uheat .

Personally I wont tile over chipboard because it moves to much (this is just me, many tilers do), has to be ply at least or ideally a tile backer board like No More Ply or Hardie. If you lay ply you must seal the underside and the edges before you put it down, leave a gap between boards for expansion and use a flexible adhesive and grout. Hope this is some kind of help.
