tiling over electric matting advice needed!

Been asked to tile over electric matting 3mm thick with 60x60 tiles. The matting is being put down over a concrete floor 18m2 in total,what adi/grout do i need,how should i apply it ie cover the floor or butter back of tile. Plus can i just use adi or should i put something else down first? the customer has told me that you can just lay the tiles straight on top but i wanted some advice from you guys instead!

Hello steve.....

You will need flexible adhesive and grout......

as for tiling straight over..then YES you can...but i and a few others on here like to level over the UFH with a latex leveller then tile....

1: this gives the mat some protection when tiling over it
2: and it gives a nice flat floor to tile to with large tiles like those or mosaics etc.....

Just a quick question as well steve....is the floor insulated.?.
as tiling straight onto a concrete floor with UFH can be expensive to run....

I always find it easier to self level over UFH, as the wires do have a habit of not sticking very well, and the probe needs to be inset into the floor as well.

Less worry of nicking a cable in the process as well

Same here, always level over UFH, have never tiled straight over it.

Cheers guys for advice ill ask the customer whos a friend if the floor is insualted and the what product would you by to cover the matting before i tile over it? How is it applied and how long to dry before tiling over it? Sorry for so many questions but jobs in lincoln and im in wakefield so need to get kit sorted before i travel!

Flexi everything.................self level compound,Cement & grout.

Self level as late as possible in the day........needs overnight to dry.

I use Arditex...But i am checking up on the Mapei latex levellers as they flow better than the Arditex......so will be worth checking them out...
