Hi guys, has anyone ever installed or tiled up to recessed wet room screens?

Ive ordered a 10mm thick screen and a pair of these recessed channels to go in the floor and wall

FD Wet Room Recessed Channel 10mm, save 61% off Rrp at fountaindirect.co.uk

From what I can see, there is a slight lip on the channel. So I guess I tile up to each side UNDER the lip of the channel fairly closely then silicon the gap between the two sides of tiles and lower the channel in to the lips rest on the tiles (flush). Then clear Silicon along the glass and upper lip of the channel and also possibly the lower lip and the tile surface

I'm using these as depth of channel is 10mm. The tiles are 9mm so including adhesive thickness, there should be no interruption to the tanking system. Unless I need to screw the channels down? in which case I guess ill Silicon the screw thread as I screw in

Just wondering if im accurate there and if anyone has installed similar systems before?

I'm doing this exact thing at the moment Dave and have done exactly as you describe, no need for screwing, just bed it into the adhesive. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1315242540.431103.jpg

I've done one, wouldn't be keen to do another! Recessed channels look fantastic but are a pain to fit.
I made the mistake of fitting channels, tiling and then fitting the glass. This makes fitting glass almost impossible as it has to go in at an angle into the recesses, would be very easy to break the glass.
Best to fit glass first then tile. But to be honest would probably fit surface mounted channels in future, not much difference in looks and far easier to fit.

Not so sure glass first is a good idea.. in my opinion.

these channels need to be secure, ie set in adhesive before holding up a great slab of 10mm thick glass

I was thinking offer it all up, mark/measure. remove glass and set the channels in adhesive BUT leave the floor channel open ended, ie no tile on the end.

that way once set the glass can be slid in.

then tile the remaining tile over the end of the floor channel

I've done a few of these on a job in Edinburgh. The channels where all fitted in 1st, then we tiled the floor and wet area. If you do, tile like this you need to make sure that you keep the floor heights at the same level, around the channel, or your going to see the difference in height through the glass. (Seen one job where the tiler had the floors at different levels and wasn't too happy about having to rip it up and do it again when the customer complained) You can finish along the glass with a clear Silicon. Leaves a nice neat finish as well.

Dave, a wetroom I fitted recently (still not finished due to the glass being made locally to custom size) involved me cutting the slot out ready for it to sit down on top of a cured layer of Silicon (on top of 8mm SLC, then Marmox). It is then to be set against the wall where I have ended the tiles to suit. The other side of the glass on the wall is going to be skimmed by plasterer and a £40 bracket will help support the lot from the ceiling. Customer looked at channels, but wanted the cleanest minimal look possible. Waiting for screen and freestanding bath to arrive now!

Dave, as for tanking, if you do have to go through it (try to avoid of course), then yes, Silicon the holes & screws
