tiling window reveals.

when tiling window reveals, do you tile reveal first or wall face first, and how do you prevent the tiles over on the facing wall, over the top reveal, from slipping, just seeing how others do it?

Wall face first, I stop the top tiles slipping by cutting a batten the width of the window and wedging it in.

1) Tile ur wall face first (and you cannot tile your upper reveal until the"Tiles over on the facing wall over the top of the reveal" have set).

2) Set a batten with a lip just inside the reveal.

tile wall first. upper reviels tiled when above has set. obvs batten works all round, duck tape does it alot for me stuck to the set tiles above; only problem u'll have is getting that bloody glue off the tiles when u rip the tape off :lol: strong stuff it is.

I use a deadman/plasterers prop to hold the top tiles in place where possible.

My tip for tiling the window head....

1. Apply adhesive to the window head with your notched trowel
2. Skim the back of tile with the flat edge of your trowel
3. Firmly press the tile into place with a little twist / wiggle

The tile will stay exactly where you placed it with no need for battens / props / supports. I've stuck natural stones and some really heavy porcelain using this method. The only time I use a support is when I have had to apply extra adhesive to bed the tile out to "square" the window.

I do walls first, then cill and reveals, I leave top tile of reveals off until I've tiled window head and then fix the top reveal tiles. I usually suport window head tiles with a batten cut short supported by a plasterboard prop.

walls 1st,then head,if it needs propping then i prop with batton off sill,but usually do as daz dus and it sticks fine.

Do people push the trim into the reveals or into the wall sides? (if that makes sense)..... I normally tile the walls first and place beading into wall sides so my beading is done before the reveals are tiled. I can never judge how much of a over lap to bring out over the window reveal. I often overlap too much and end up packing out the reveals too much.

Trim into the window reveals after tiling the wall, so the flange of the trim is under the cill/reveal tiles.

Lol, I was laughing while I was writing it! The only alternative I could come up with was flap, and that's just as bad, lol!

Any advice on how to stick the beads. Especially if your not tiling the reveals for a bit after. Do you just place a bit of adhesive on the "flange".

Also, for 8mm tiles would you go any bigger than 9mm beading?

Yeah just push them into a bit of adhesive then tile into them, no need to let it set. I suppose you could do it with rapid set and tile it a couple of hours later, not something I've ever done though.

would always tile into cills and reveals, never even heard or seen it done on the wall side to be honest.

I used to do it in the wall side when using quad trims. Last piece would be placed in then tiled, i felt it actually gave a more stable set up, once it was in there was minimum detailing to get perfect then it was locked in.
