Tips on using mosaic tiles

Hi All

I have just tiled my bathroom floor and am about to start tiling the walls.

I am using 10mm ceramic marble tiles and breakingthis up with mosaic tiles. (1 strip in the shower area and one behind the bath)

Can anyone give me some advice on how to apply the mosaics?

1) Are these applied with the same tools required to apply the marble tiles?

2) Should a full marble tile always lead upto and from the mosaic tile?

3) Is there anything else I should be aware of?

cg- You can't have a ceramic and marble tile - it will have to be one or the other.
The size of this tile you say is 10mm!
If you could confrim these details I may grasp the picture.

Hi John,

Sorry for the confusion. I have got 10mm marble wall tiles measuring 305mm x 305mm. I also have some glass mosaic which measure 316mm x 316mm x 5mm.

p.s I have just laid the floor tiles and am pleased with the results. However it was extremely difficult so I am thinking of getting a tiler in to do the wall. Is there any where on this site that I can find a reputable tiler who will do a top notch job? and will it matter that I have already bought the tiles and adhesive?

The trick with mosaics is not using too much adhesive so you don't end end up with a wave effect, this is going to be made harder with the differences in thickness of tiles.

if you are going to attempt this yourself i would suggest tiling up to the border then gently applying about 3/4mm of adhesive were the mosaics will be then allowing to dry before applying the mosaics on top of it by gently pressing with a good quality clean grout float so the come level with the other tiling
