I got a call today(phone hasn't stopped this week, and just as i started to write this another job in!!).Anyway today this woman rang me,travertine throughout ground floor of a new build,i was recommended by a friend of hers. Her house is near a quarry and the explosions will cause vibrations because her house is built on rock, she has underfloor heating under screed. What is the best decoupling membrane that i can use on this taking into account the heat, vibrations, travertine etc ???? i haven't seen it yet but confident its mine.
I don't think ditra is suitable?

I'm sure that they must be exaggerating the 'bounce' if it were that bad surely the glass windows would shatter, just my thought. You can't be too safe though, check it out before hand, get a piece of glass 100mm x 25mm fix it to the floor in question at both ends with no nails, leave it in a discreet place and wait, if and when the blasts happen and the glass stays intact, I don't think you'll need to worry, if it cracks though, problem time.

who installed the wet system, any reputable company would not install this sytem if it was subject to shock!!!

it will split the pipe in the screed!!!! and that is big problems, dig up floor, kitchen, tiles, etc.

that said if a cowboy did it who knows!!!

Exactly, if the vibration was really bad their would be damage all over the house, you would have thought ? Testing time ;)

Hi Joe, when I went to a Schluter training class many years ago,one thing they went over was an installation in a power generating plant that consisted of quarry tile set over Ditra. The thing that was interesting about this installation was that the acres of tile were set around the enormous hydro-electric generators (these things were the size of a house). Schluter said the previous tile installation had failed primarily because of the constant vibrations propogating through the slab, and that the Ditra was installed successfully and to date the new installation was fine.

It's not the same situation as your job, but it's worth a call to your Schluter rep to see what he has to say.
