Travertine on PB walls??

Very occasional poster here (Hi Dave :wave and I'm sure this may have been covered so excuse my laziness for not searching more thoroughly but.....

Been asked to tile a couple of ensuites and a bathroom in travertine. One wall is D&D plasterboard, the other three are stud partitions with the PB screwed to the metal framework type of partition as opposed to timber.

It's a new build and what concerns me is that the walls have all been emulsioned. They are joint taped as opposed to skimmed.

Do the walls need any primer/prep before tiling?

Should the adhesive be tubbed or the same as is going on the floor ie rapid set floor tile adhesive?

And finally, these tiles are 600mm x 300mm. Should I be concerned about whether or not the PB walls can carry this weight?

hiya,ideally you want backerboards,plasterboard is borderline depending on trav weight but painted and taped i wouldnt be keen
can you remove the paint?

you will need white powdered adhesive for the travertine,tubbed will not be suitable
have you fixed any stone before

Done plenty of stone but only on floors.

My main concern was the weight of the tiles. As they are ensuites, the areas to be tiled are small, ie no bigger than 1800 x 2400 on any wall - some of them smaller.

Unfortunately, customers choose a tile they like but know nothing of the higher implications of tiling. And most new builds these days are not ultimately built for jobs like this.

The metal framework is probably 50mm thick, could screw some 12.5mm hardie on to give it some stability.

You will also need to take the weight of adhesive and grout into account, and I definitely would get the paint removed before considering tiling it.
