Travertine over ceramic

I want to rip my bath out and replace with a shower cubicle. Can i overtile my existing ceramic tiles with travertine tiles or do i have to take existing tiles down and start from scratch??? Any help would be greatley appreciated!!

definately take them off,tile on tile isnt good practice never mind stone the weight would be far too much

rip out old tiles , then you have to consider the weight of the trav on your walls, depends what your walls are made off, it there plaster board and skimmed walls , iwould replace with cement boards i.e hardi backer
