Travertine tiles which have had acid on them

Hi
Going to look at a job tomorrow night - I have been told by the owner the tiler has laid Travertine tiles, with cement based grout, tiles apparently have grout all over them and in attempt to put right the tiler poured acid on them and they now look dreadful.
So I will go and have a look but is there any way this job can be salvaged by me - the owner does not want to take the tiles up and start again.
I will take pictures but is there anything I really need to ask, try or look at ?

Hi Mark

Please take a look tomorrow evening and send / post some pictures - general plus in focus close ups if poss.

You may have to consider diamond honing if the etching is deep or may be a srubbing machine with a suitable cleaner but if the surface of the Trav has been eaten away by the acid wash, then it a problem. The one golden rule is that you never apply acid wash to calcerous / limestone type nat stone - unless you want to dissolve them. :yikes:

as above you may have to polish them down, you could also get in touch with a stone masonry supplier and get some resin powder mix that could be used to match and fill in the gaps caused by the acid. that could then be polished down as well. it is a doable job. just need to see how bad it is and then work out a solution that is cost effective.
