trim snips/mytre box

lo all,does anyone use or have used these trim snips for cutting trims at angles or do you prefer the boxes? the snips look less bulky for storage but are they any good?

The tin snips will damage any trims you try to cut with them, stick with the mitre box

sorry beams not tin snips mate,are you thinking of gilbows? for sheet metal work


i meant trim snips,,they are snips/cutters like a pair of secatuers for the garden but for trims instead and have an angle finder ont hem

There ok for cutting square cuts but did find they squish the plastic trim for 45's

I used the snips at NETT and to be honest it's just as easy using a saw and mitre box

I did see some snips for a decent price the other day that I think would do the job Multi Purpose Shears : Knives Cutting Tools : Maplin

I use them straight cuts but cuting angles are a pain, they squash the trim then cut so you never get quite the angle you want, you can support the trim slightly as you cut but it's a faf so quicker to use a mitre box. The cutters were I believe taken from the double glazing industry for cutting solid trims but don't seem to work with tile trims as well

i use the trim snips on plastic trim. I like them but you do have to keep a good blade in them.

I've used them before, but unles was usng them wrong found they were no good for round wndows unless you put the flange on the wall nstead of into the reveal

cut the flange of m8 then cut the miter

i just use my 4" grinder. diamond blade for plastic and fine metal for aluminium trims. it's ideal for taking a touch off whereas it would be hard to do that with a saw.

i ordered a dozen quansol mitre boxes today and will post a reveiw once i get a chance to use one
