Ufh and ditra

Hi all,I know this has been asked but here goes.i am currently fitting a large kitchen floor(30m2) with ufh then ditra.i have time and height issues with the job and am asking whether there is a problem if I laid the ditra directly over the ufh without slc.i know this isn't normal procedure but would appreciate any advice,thanks

You are only supposed to use a 4mm trowel to fit ditra ?

Slc only takes a couple of hours to dry. I think you will get too many voids if you put the ditra straight over the ufh

Same way u would if you were fitting tiles straight over the UFH. Cables have to be completely encased in adhesive.

So it'd be a 8/10/12mm trowel, and we'd be applying adhesive to floor and to the ditra, just as if its a tile? doubt it

Cables have to be completely encased in adhesive

So that might as well be SLC then yeah?

Not for one min did I say it had to be adhesive, so why the question?

Go with the SLC BA, it'll be a real pain trying to get the ditra flat if you go straight over the UFH with adhesive.
No real way to fast track these floors.

Even if u covered UFH with P.C Mortar like Ditra suggests, u still have to let it cure. So no, not really.

For foot traffic yes. Still have to wait 24 hours before covering with most.

What about using rapid set as a SLC would this work?

No real point unless it was a very small area. A lot easier to prepare correctly than mess about with bedding up tiles with adhesive.
Just SLC it and tile next day onto a flat protected surface. Cost of materials isnt a real issue as you will either need X amount of extra rapid set adhesive or X amount of SLC.

It could "work" but you'd have the ball ache of trowelling it out flat. Where as SLC does half the job for you. Pour, push, cover and smooth.

Haharrr!! That's fair enough then. I asked because so many seem to yes ditra un-necessarily and as you have possible space issues it might have been eliminatable.... If such a word exists...

Floor self levelled today ready for ditra on mon,I agree Ajax I don't use it unless I really need to and as you say a lot of people in my area can't get enough of it
