Hi,

Although not recommended i'd like to put UFH in my walkin shower as well as the rest of the bathroom.
As it stands I've used wetdecs tuff former with durabase CI membrane over it in shower and rest of room has no more ply over floorboards.

I'm going to lay UFH,
use a latex SLC 10mm over cables (which brand best?)
then use BAL natural stone adhesive in shower for the stone mosaics (that flexible enough?)
and another adhesive for the rest of the floor which are porcelin tiles.

is it as simple as that? anyone done UFH in walk in shower it worth it?

Thanks for help/advice.

Hi Wilfredolimb,

Who has said that UFH is not recommended in a shower area, and why?

Our UFH cables are fully earthed so are suitable within a shower area and have an IP rating of X7 which means

"Protected against the effects of temporary immersion between 15cm and 1m. Duration of test 30 minutes"

If you mean which UFH is "best to use" then ofcourse it is U HEAT!!! If you mean the SLC then most of the guys on here like the Mapei stuff FIBREPLAN, but that could be the name of a diet so please check!!

At present you are overboarding the floor with No more ply and a suitable single part (just add water) flexible adhesive should be fine. Please check with BAL or the guys in the adhesive secion first (http://www.tilersforums.com/tile-adhesive-grout-prep-forum/)

If you are using the No more ply as it says suitable for UFH the please do not be fooled that it is an insulation board as it is NOT. It is just a backer board. If you want an insulaton board that is also waterproof then please have a look at http://www.uheat.co.uk/backerboard.htm

I hope this helps and is easy to understand. If not then please call me on the number below.

Thanks

Done a couple mate,
would not recommend putting self leveller over the cable, or you will end up with a perfectly level wet floor with no fall !!!
Best way is to lay cable and then do a stiff mix of flexible adhesive mixed with latex instead of water ( belt and braces ) Use a trowell ( flat edge ) to carefully smooth adhesive over the cable following the fall of the tray in each direction. Allow to set then tile over. Damn site easier than levelling then having to construct a new fall from scratch ( fall only needs to be about 1 in 40 )

Hi Guys,

Thanks for reply

Aaron, I wish I knew about your backerboards before I put the no more ply down, they are screwed down and thoroughly glued, so would be a( NO SWEARING) to remove now, and I think if i added your backerboard ontop of the 6mm nmp after tiles would be too high?!

I already have bought the UFH from Elecktra, which I also saw on your website? Is this the UFH your were recommending in your last post, IP rating etc?

I'll also look into Mapei and correct adhesive etc, but thanks again for the help mate much appreciated!

Leatherface, thanks for that, i honestly would've levelled it out without realising then beat myself up after i realised! by the way what the hell does belt and braces mean?

Cheers.

No problems for the help.

Going onto a concrete sub floor would be A LOT worse than going onto a timber subfloor like yourself so do not worry too much. The main reason i say is that No more ply say their stuff has insulation properties but in reality it does not as it is purely a construction/backerboard where as the boards that we do are insulation boards so help with running costs etc.

The stuff you have bought from us has the IP rating of X7 and is more than suitable for going into a shower area.

Hope all goes well and any other questions just ask
