Uncalibrated slate - seal before?

Merry Christmas one and all.
Lot's of Slate laying tips but one simple question should you seal before you lay them - YES or NO?

I don't, work cleanly, then seal before and after grouting.

I don't seal before fixing as the slate tends to be very dirty and the cleaning process during laying can remove many layers of 'colour'. Depending on the surface as to whether it's better to seal before grouting as the smoother faces can have pores which will hold the grout and in the layers of riven types. But whichever it has to be fully dried before any seal is applied.
