I have my first uncalibrated slate job soon. 13m kichen on concrete (2 rooms and breakfast bar just to make it awkward). I have charged £640 for this job inc materials is this a fair price? Is this the right way to go?

1. Sort tiles and lay thick ones in central areas and cut thin ones for edges
2. Seal twice before grouting then seal after
3. Grout gap 5mm plus and do by eye

Is it still okay to use the wet cutter or should i use a grinder?

Does the adhesive need to be flexible, i always use BAL products.

What is a flake removal tool.

Thanks in advance for any advice Laur

i would say this is a top end price so your doing well there m8, yes i would use a flexible cement and flexible grout, but thats just me i use that stuff for most floors just to be sure..... maybe some of more experienced guys can suggest otherwise.....Eveything thing else looks good....though when i have done slate i prefer to seal the tiles twice before laying then once after grouting... keep them a clean as you can when grouting as the stuff gets into little ledges and is nightmare to get out once dried even when sealed....Rik

i used to do them inc materials for half that easy 2 days work good money. i always bush them down both sides with a stiff hand brush remove any loose flakes pick the good side up then first coat Hg impregnater with a sponge when dry pick them up and put them in three different piles thin medium thick grid the floor then lay them never by eye then grout them with a wet mix 2 in 1 sand & cement gives you nice full joints then clean well once dry 1 more coat of impregnater over tiles & grout that will hide any slight cement marks next day give it at least 2 coats of Hg glov polish doesn't need to be flexible adhesive but needs to be a solid bed so butter the backs make sure when you cut them with your wet cutter you wipe them with a cloth or sponge especially on L shapes, like terracotta will leave a mark on the tiles :pete
