Im getting rid of the car. Its a tad annoying as I loose over 10years NCB. :mad2: Apparently cars and vans are regarded as different types of vehicles as vans are regarded as commercial vehicles.
This isnt mentioned on the sites (ie. gocompare etc.) until you speak to someone about it and it bumps up the price, some alot more than others.
Anyway Ive gone with Performance Direct as they were reasonable, and Ive now lost the will to live!

Now, is it me, or are insurance companies missing a trick here?

What with the economic downturn, and big companies going bust, surely insurance companies should be thinking outside of the box about what they can and cannot do for self employed and small businesses...

One well known insurance company allowed named drivers to earn NCB on somebody else's policy, so how can driving a car for 10 years mean that you're at greater risk now that you drive a van???

I just don't get it....

p.s. just had a choc eclair, fresh cream cakes doing the rounds in the office today cos it's someone's birthday! so much for the diet

I went through these guys:
Commercial Vehicle Direct - Low Cost Van Insurance came out cheapest with best features.

I simply asked the person on the phone if they could take into account 5 years claim free as a company car driver and they gave me 5 yrs NCB as a start off without any proof!

Can't transfer it away from them though, although now I am in my 2nd year....

Second GDs recommendation. I was with Commercial Vehicle Direct for a while.

At the time they were the only ones who would take me on as the van I had was for private use for sensible money:huh2:. IIRC they took my no claims into account but I was keeping the car as well so I didn't actually transfer it.

I kept that van for around 2.5 years, when I started trading I just let them know and it made no difference to the premium at all.

I am now with More Than van insurance.

If you do use More Than, go via Quidco.com. You'll get cashback for taking out a policy. Both our cars are insured with Privalage via Quidco.com and we got £100 cashback for one and £70 for the other. Next year we will most likely go via Quidco again, parhaps to a different insurer and claim more cashback - but everyone on here already thinks I'm tight:yes:.
