Verona Split Faced Mosaics

We are fixing these in a pub next week, TG advised the client to seal them front & back??

Anyone used these & what is the sealing procedure?

They do look similar, the email i got was through from tile giant,

They are 600 x 150.

I assume the back is on a mesh? Sealing the back doesn't sound right.

Theres no mesh on them Bri, they are stuck (glued) together. i got told they were a slate slip but now im getting told they are a composite type material.

They look like marble in the picture.

I have never sealed the back of tiles, as soon as i got told i questioned this.

They are coming in about £120+ m2 so they aint cheap.

Would be careful sealing the backs don't think its a good idea

I'll find a link to some I've done recently, they were glued, like you say, but there was a mesh in there as well. Anyway, how can you possibly seal the backs if they are covered in glue? Sound like some ill-informed shop worker advice to me.

These ones, from Topps. Horrid things, I cut the sheets into thirds and laid them random bond to blend the joins, I wasn't happy with the outcome, the joins were still visible and would have been hidden by grout, if you could grout them :mad2:

I lifted a sample up in the shop, the back is quite flat with a few small over runs of glue coming out the joins.

The shop assistant said that they need sealed front & back as if they werent then minerals would come out the stone & go into the adhesive??

Im defo not sealing the backs, i told him this & he looked at me puzzled. :mad2:

Not to worry, I think it's safe to say that the backs don't/won't need to be sealed.
