Hello peeps,

I've just been to look at a job and nearly SH*T myself (And i'm not joking).
Its an hallway 7 sqm and the guy wants it doing in victorian porcelain, he had them set out in the other room how he wanted them and said it does'nt have to be perfect...So that eased a little pressure..

As you all know im new to the tiling world and have only 1 paid tiling job under my belt so do you think this is way out of my league or should i use it as a learning curve?

I was straight with the guy and told him i've never done this type of tiling before and said "i didnt know exactly how long it will take me so i would have to give you a day rate". Am i right in saying this?

What would you guys charge for this and how long would it take you? or would you stay well clear?

He had a tiler doing his bathroom and was meant to be doing his hallway but once he completed the bathroom he didnt turn up to do the hallway, i wonder why?? lol

I've took a pic of the layout and the tiles but cant upload it as the file is to big (can anyone help me on this)

Any advice appreciated

Monty

mmmmm hard one Monty and really the decision about doing the job can only be left to you, do you think you will be able to do it ok? I know the customer has said it doesn't have to be perfect but im sure he will still want a good standard of finish.

As for charging mate just be wary about charging day rates when first starting out. Obviously you will be a lot slower (like myself) than someone who has tiled for many years so if you give such and such a price many customers will just say "no thanks this other bloke is only charging blah blah blah because he can do it in 2 days". Go for a set price mate and if it takes you a long time and you earn just £50 a day then so be it, nothing you can do mate until the speed picks up, hard to start with.

I did a granite job a few weeks back with 600 x 600 and asked basically the same questions as you mate. Some advised keep away could be a hassle and some gave me great advice on the job. Took the job and it worked out great, back at customers to price for a huge splashback and two bathrooms tomorrow :)

just take a look at the job mate and ask yourself "can i do this?"

GL on what you decide to do mate

I'm glad things are going good for you mate...keep it up pal...
