Re: Wall & Floor Tiling AD-HOC Consultancy – CITY & GUILDS - Job Vacan

Its all finished now and I am just waiting to see the final draft.
It was the full level 1 and 2 City & Guilds Diploma I was involved with the question writing for the job knowledge papers and editing the units. Unfortunately I was not involved in the assessment criteria that had already been decided before I started so I had to base the practical assessments on the existing assessment criteria I wrote the practical assessments for the level 1 diploma and was involved with the editing of the level 2. One of the other consultants wrote a practical assessment task for the entry level 1 6704 which was in my opinion spot on for the level of learner but it was knocked back by one of the other consultants as he did not think he could deliver it in 40 hours it was only a 1.5m2 kitchen splash back simulation but it will now have to be cut down . I have also been to edit the entry level 3 and level 1 taster 6219. The 6219 is as basic as it gets and is aimed at a very low level learner with a view to progress on to the level 1 diploma.

Incredibly at the moment there are no plans for a City & Guilds level 3 Diploma as there are only something like 50 or so students in the UK at the moment doing the CITB level 3 Diploma so they do not see the uptake being financially viable.

The root of progression for these training qualifications for a novice would be something like this
start with the entry level 1 taster units to see if you like tiling these are stand alone units and are not assessed to industry standards so will not in any way qualify you as a tiler they are just a taste and a root of progression on to the level 1 Diploma then on to the level 2 Diploma these qualifications are training qualifications not competency evidence based like the NVQ so even when you finis the level 2 Diploma you will still need to find paid work within the tiling industry and build a portfolio of site evidence to gain your NVQ.

Just so it is abundantly clear if your a novice to tiling there is not now and never has been and never will be a fast track 123456789or 10 week tiling course that will give you an NVQ at the end all you will get is some training and possibly registered as an NVQ candidate. Providing the portfolio of site evidence will then be your responsibility.
