Wall papered bathroom to prepare for tiling

Hi All,Am I right in thinking that after stripping the walls, all remaining paste must be removed? Would sugar soap do a good job? If there is a painted surface does this need roughening to provide a suitable substrate? Have a feeling this is going to be an extra day's work.Arghh!A1P

with whitebeam,as long as the vast majority is removed it should be fine
