Wall prep on painted plasterboard

Stavs tiles

Hi guys!

I've had mix reviews on this one and need a final judgement by you helpful lot!

So I've got a plasterboard that's painted with emulsion and going to tile onto.

Wall prep.........The question is shall I score/scratch the plasterboard with a sharp tool so the adhesive can grab onto. I will be priming the wall with Acrylic bal after.

A lot of people are telling me just to scrape and key the painted plasterboard and it will be fine?!??!?

A lot of people are also telling me il weaken the plasterboard. These tiles are 300x550 and ceramic and actually not too heavy.

Thank you all so much in advance!

Don't scratch the board with a knife, if it's just emulsion, sand it down with sand paper and prime it as normal.
Or you could scrub it with a sponge and rub it off, but I don't like wetting the board to much as it could lift the paper

Cheers lads, do I need to remove all the paint as that may be a nightmare?! Also what would happen if I keyed the plasterboard a bit?

Just wana get the tiles nicely secured on the wall so they don't fall off!

If it was skimmed you could scratch it, but because it's just board it weakens the board , the paper is what holds the gypsum together mostly .
.and no,just get as much paint sanded as best you can, your primer with soak through the emulsion

It really ain't that hard . ...rough grit sand paper, block of wood to wrap it round . ...do a whole wall in 30 mins . .
Even easier if you got a palm sander.
You don't need to be to anal about it....long as you get most of it off ..
