Hi everyone,

I am looking for a bit of advice with my kitchen tiling project.
I have replaced my kitchen with new units and i was planning on tiling over the existing tiles, (these tiles have been gloss painted), around the new units.

However there are parts of the walls where there are no tiles due to the wall cabinets being moved position. I was planning to fill this area with either plywood or plasterboard of the same thickness (5mm). I was then going to tile over this.

What i'm looking to find out is, is this going to be possible and is there anything important to know before going ahead.
Also what would be the best adhesive to use for tiling on both plywood/plasterboard, and on top of tiles.

Any advice would be appreciated,
Thanks
Stephen.

If its plasterboard walls you could use a random orbital sander to remove the adhesive and then prime the walls. In this situation I preffer to just cut out the plaster board at worktop height up to the top tile and then replace with new plasterboard

I've often wondered how you would go about this!?! Wouldn't the plasterboard holding the cabinets up lose integrity (i've never fitted a kitchen before, so have no real idea how they are fixed)?

if it an area were its not decorated (beneath the worktop/ behind the untis) its not huge issue but, to overcome this you cut a fillet of timber and put it behind the plaster board so that half is behind the existing plaster board and half will be behind the new.

You screw into the timber through the existing plasterboard, this will hold the timber in place. When fitting the replacement plasterboard you will now have something to fix to.

cut out the patch peice in the new timber I use 2x1 or 3x1 peices of pine
