wall wider at top of the window!

Just in the middle of tiling a bathroom in an old terrace house,when i was setting out the window wall was 178.5cm. As ive built up the tiles either side of the window ive gone to put the tiles above the window and there is a gap of 2.5cm when tiled fully across. I measured the wall across from the top of the window and it is wider than my first measurement. Ive had to leave bigger gaps over the window top but havent put any more on just in case theres something i could do. Ive never had this problem before when tiling any advise would be helpful!

you mean the grout lines are wider or the edges to the wall?

25mm ,you will need to use wider grout lines to try and compensate(wide joint grout should be used also).Next time you come to a window try tiling one side then up and over the window and down the other side and this should avoid the situation you have found yourself in....Bri

You have lost your levels somewhere over that area.. to be that far out.......

Personally i would pull them off and do it again...

Cheers guys for advice,ive checked the levels and my vertical lines and they are all spot on even the boarder that fits in the window is the same height both sides.I think ill tweek the the tiles across the top to cover it best i can as only got one tile plus cut to the ceiling to do.Feel gutted that its happened as hate it when things dont look right but every wall has been a nightmare this was the flattest one!

square the window before you start, this may mean a couple of battons and a bit of plastering. you see what happens when you start to tile then realise the window edges are not square.

is the bottom row of tiles the same measurement as the top row ? ete

If the gap between your tiles at the top is 25mm more than at the bottom then something is very pi**ed.

Cheers for replys took your advice dave took left hand side of the window tiles off and realined them looks sound now cheers, i will take note not to do that again!

On a victorian house you will probably need to do some squaring up of the window before stating. I like to trace vertical and horizontal lines to see how the window is, if it's on the p**s then square it up with some rapid-set, once I reach the window (tiling) I will offer the trim up to make sure everything still looks right then go up and over.

Same goes for door frames. If you try to meet tiles up you either end up having to put in a closer or have a gap which is both obvious and unsightly.

Now that it's tiled I would have a fiddle with the surrounding tiles to see if you can lose the gap in the grout lines. If you think it looks ****e then there is no option but to start again.

If your using 1mm spacers your doomed!
