Having outgrown their existing Glasgow premises, CTD built a new showroom a couple of miles away, along with a trade counter, offices and warehouse. The 372 m2 showroom floor was tiled with Vitra 440 x 440 Cemento Mink, extending into the trade counter, and a number of Schlüter profiles were specified to ensure the installation's long-lasting integrity. Regional Director Peter Hindley, who has been with CTD for 17 years, said: "CTD has grown considerably with a number of new branches, and we needed a better showroom and warehouse. Of course, we wanted to install the correct profiles to ensure the tiles were fully protected. Schlüter are the specialists in essential tile protection, we advise our customers on the use of Schlüter, and we wanted the best for ourselves, too. We recommend Schlüter, so we used Schlüter."
Schlüter-DILEX-AKWS was specified to create tile fields which move independently of each other, including following substrate movement joints in the surface, ensuring that the tiles on the showroom floor won't crack, split or debond. Schlüter-RENO-U transition profiles protect the exposed edge of the tiles at the entrance to the toilets, warehouse and canteen, where there is no covering surface on the concrete substrate.
The substrate was prepared with Ardex K-15 self-leveling compound, and the tiles fixed with BAL MOTO bond adhesive. The installation was finished with Ardex C2 Grey grout.
In addition, Schlüter-TREP-E stair nosing profiles were fitted to the front edge of the stairs leading from the showroom to the offices.
