Hi Guys.

Hope you don't mind taking a few minutes to look over my attached design and offer any advice you feel necessary.

I am currently planning my wetroom install in my ensuite bathroom.

I have stripped it back to brick and studs so have a completely blank canvas to work with.

My plan is to create a corner wetroom area 1.3m x 1.1m with small reveals at the side. I don't plan on having any screen on the entrance and the bath will be to one side (as shown) - boxed in and tiled onto marmox board.

My main question regards the floor -
Use a marmox showerlay (22mm thick) and then replace the floorboards with 18mm Marine ply (primed with extra noggins)

I was then thinking 6mm marmox board over the ply to bring the floor level to the height of the showerlay. waterproof tape then mapei aquadefence as a double measure
Does this sound like a sensible plan or is there a better way of doing it?
My other question regards the lack of screen. Will it be an issue having no screen? The whole floor would be tanked but obviously beyond the showerlay area the floor would be flat with no gradient so any water would just sit there (i.e. around the toilet area)

Thanks in advance.
David.

I actually quite like the design and am trying to think of ways to use it screenless without fear of water going everywhere.

What about building the wall out from the bath side further but use decorative glass blocks. I love these when laid properly. They would allow in the light but control the spread of water all over the room to a certain extent.

If you then put the toilet on the same wall as the sink unit it will give you more room to enter and exit.

As there will be lots of water don't use a vanity unit round the sink. There are some stunning modern sinks available these days.

I personally don't like screens either but my en suite won't allow anything else.

Thanks for your reply Ajax123. I'm still trying to rethink the idea, my main problem with a screen is that if I extend the wall above the end of the bath I am left with an opening of about 900mm, perfect for a screen. Trouble is the toilet is in the way for the opening arc of the door.
The other option would be a chrome curtain rail with a curtain that would hide behind the reveal next to the toilet when not in use.

If anybody has any other ideas I'd be grateful.

Thanks again.

use a 900x900 single door quad and fix it on the floor every week some one will come in and ask how they can fit glass to there wet rooms.sick and tired of the water every where. seemed like a good idear at the time

Looking at you excellent drawing.....I can see a couple of ways to improve IMO....
1. you appear to have a vertical soil stack coming from the same wall as the concealed cistern......instead of that why not box the whole area (300mm) and create pigeon holes (3 or 4) of equal size and use this boxing as the return.....
much neater and you get some pretty and usefull storage......you could even put LEDs in the pigeon holes....wonderful.........

2. on the other return, on the short end of the bath box that out as a stud wall also and insert a piece of glass or if you want a diffused look use glass blocks......simples.......here is one I did earlier:......

oh but before that.....i typed this post four times, but my browser kept crashing.........it was better the first time out......oh well...here's the picture as an idea.....:

Thanks to everybody who has posted so far with ideas and suggestions.

I was thinking of building the wall up at the end of the bath and even considered the use of glass blocks but I didn't like the idea of the bath being inside an alcove and thought that it might may the room feel smaller when stood at the door. I have gone for glass at the end of the bath. I'm assuming I can get the screen made to a custom size with chrome mounts either side?
I have kept the shower area as a wetroom type floor but have added a small threshold step to seperate the shower area from the main floor.
The door sit on top of this and are of the frameless double pivot style which open inwards and out. (900mm total/450 per door).

The tyles shown are only for illustration and the actual tiles will be different to these.

The area above the toilet will most probably be where I put my towel rail as it will be the only available place left.
LED lighting will also feature but isn't shown on the diagram.

Any further suggestions or reasons not to go with this design please let me know.

Thanks.
David.

Love the new design. Like the idea of pigeon hole shelves too and I agree with the idea of hiding the stack better.

Now then I am remodelling my lounge and am rubbish at drawing so tend to work out of my head. Hat graphics page are you using for these?

I use Google sketchup. It's a free program to download.
Really easy to use and there are lots of tutorials on the net.
Basically it's a 3d modelling program based on simply shapes that you can push an pull around as much as you like. You can put all your measurements in so it's perfect for room design.
Objects such as toilets etc can be directly imported off the net.
Once you get the basics it's really easy.

I'm doing my whole house and use it for every room more or less.
