Aqua Tiling

Ive just my first job on my own, and made a mistake that could of ruined me before i even started.

Starting above the cooker as my centre line, in a new kitchen that was fitted in a extension, i lent on the cooker dial and turnt the electric hood on, picking up a tile that was baking hot, i turnt it off and then turnt the wall switch off. Promlem sorted.

carried on and finished the tiling. I went to the local diy shop, a minute walk away, to get longer screws for the sockets and came back just in time to a smoking dust sheet.

trying to figure out why it came on as i turnt the wall switch off.

the clever electritian wired the fuse switch to cooker by the fridge, and the fuse switch for the fridge by the cooker.

so ive still had the cooker on and defrosted the fridge.

luckily the client blamed the sparks and said i couldnt have known the switches were on opposite sides of the room.

not a good start!!!!!!!!!

Time's Ran Out

Something always happens when you first start!
When I was a lad.............
We used to prime new plastered walls with Bal Acetone primer which was highly inflammable - Yep - it went up!
Fortunately the pilot light in the gas cooker only ignited the fumes in the air but the sight of flames lapping the ceiling was something that I still remember.
It was a bit like that film Backdraft! All I heard was a whoosh! Me and the pot were out of the room in a flash and when I rushed back in it was just going out!

White Room

A plumber nearly set his van alight, he was smoking when he was looking for something in the back of the van, found it, went inside the house he was working in and looked out of the window and thought his cab of the van were steamed up.

Went to have a look and realised it was smoke, opened the rear door and had a dust sheet on fire, he had an amber from his *** that had dropped onto the sheet when searching for something.

He managed to drag the dust sheet out but it stunk to heaven:oops:

no not had any complaints on my tiling YET
best one i did was whilst fitting a kitchen for a lad i know, he asked me to switch the mains off whilst he re-wired the cooker, so i did like-wise but then he got blown across the room. i'd switched off the white meter (economy 7) and he took the 32 amp power! was ok after about an hour!

Yup this very thing happened to me on my first job on my own. Put dust sheet on cooker to protect it. Started tiling the cooker space, really concentrating. Thought, these tiles smell funny.......they're a bit smokey aswell.........HOLY CRAP MY DUST SHEET IS ON FIRE!!!!!

I ran outside with the thing in my hands, flames licking up my arms, and stomped it to smitherines on the grass :D

Absolutely crapped my pants and gingerly went to look at the damage on the cooker. No damage done, and a mental note to myself to make sure cookers are off in future.

Next day I bought liability insurance :D
