years ago i would have said the tile industry was lead by the tradesmen, tiler's plasterers/brickes , now i think the suppliers have come-into & now dominate the tiling Trade/industry completely ,there were established fixing methods (part of the trade ) the suppliers said you are doing it wrong ,you should use our products !, so for various reasons we changed ,so they had us from then on,we do and dance to there tune now, think about it the cheapest part of a job these days is the labour just a thought here.
what do you guys think ?.

Tend to agree with Gary, the internet is killing loads of companys...one supplier I use does a ton of selling via the net direct from supplier to buyer...

I think that suppliers try to respond to the needs of the tradesmen. Yes there is a tendency for suppliers to "invent a need" but really if the trades did not want change then it would not happen. I think there are probably too many suppliers chasing the same work as there is not enough work to go round and that can lead to pretty aggressive marketing. At pain of sounding insulting and patronising I also think that there are too many tradespeople without the necessary intellect, experience or expertise to resist that sort of marketing so the tail can start wagging the dog.

Agree with you there Alan, there certainly is too many chancers posing as tilers with no skill and unwilling to improve.... Worrying for the public imo

Chancers have been knocking about since I came into the building back in 71, can't see it making any difference as theres less work for all.....

i want to know how they seem to get the work when its very obvious there standards are so poor. They must have some real verbal and possibly hypnotherapy skills not to go out the game!!

Just to add, i don't mean the average bloke who tries and willing to improve, and does a decent job for a decent wage!

its just price they charge so low a price that the customer has a sort of fatal attraction to them ( greed lol )

here i think there may be some truth in that! Beware of any tiler who does not own more than one size of serrated trowel!!
