What filler?

Just painting the side wall of my garage and notice a 1cm gap all along the top between the door frame and a metal clad (looks like aluminum) lintel above, gap is the whole thickness, i.e daylight shines through.

So, apart from expanding foam I do not have handy, what else could I fill this with? Don't shoot me down in flames, but could tubbed addy work? I have some left... don't ask... might be off by now, used by hubby BEFORE my tiling course. Or a piece of t&g I do have handy and then silicone the sides? Got plenty of that in. Also have normal wall fillers, but not much of it. What would you do? Wood - gap - metal.

tubbed will take along time to go off and will shrink back and crack as it does eventually dry

Around some pine wood ok? the gap is around 15cm deep...

fill the gap with foam backer rod then silicone , thats a monster gap to be stuffing silicone into :yikes:

Thanks guys, don't have foam backer board here, but if the wood's ok I'll do that, have some thin slats that go in there nicely...that way I'll have enough silicone, too. I'll leave the tubbed addy where it is, Mike :smilewinkgrin: Bless the Persimmon builders...

If you're painting it I would fill the gap with cardboard then caulk it, if not painting maybe gap filler or silicone

15 cm covers the depth of wall and door frame (no trim) and it's around a cm high. Just cut two layers of the by now infamous left over ceiling ply, fit perfectly snug but not too tight and will use white silicone to match white door frame on both sides. (Don't have caulk handy either) It will be invisible. Sorted Thank guys... just needed a bit of brain storming..

That's true.. but didn't have that handy either... but it's ok now, already fixed now, see above... and it's just fine... next I discovered that the door frame is suspended on about 2x4cm concrete blobbs, with nothing in between... honestly...:incazzato:This garage is taking forever... and ever... and ever.... :incazzato:
