What's mitred edges?

Layman/stupid question alert!

I'm having a bathroom and en suite shower room done as part of a house renovation. My builder took me to see another house he was doing so I could check out the work of his bathroom fitter and tiler.

The tiling work was gorgeous and the tiles round all the windows had mitred edges (he said). I noticed that there were no tiling strips so is a mitred edge how you tile round things like windows without using the strips?

Is this a better way or working or is it just down to the look of it?

plastic strips dont suit stone installations, mitring give a nice finish to external corners

they're Porcelanosa tiles mate can't remember the style now.

Its hard to see how those external corners are met tile to tile am i right in thinking the tiles are more or less ground down to an angle to meet each other- say on a wet cutter ? or is there a different method of meeting this, sorry if this is a daft question

Mitred Paul,, as you say the backs taken back at an angle allowing the face edges to come closer to make a tighter joint and no biscuit showing within reason.

Yes Paul.. Some guys use a grinder and ream the back out as well.. same effect..

I did those on my wet cutter (the blade bevels for mitre cuts) I cut them from the edge of the full tile leaving about 1mm so I didn't have to cut into the glazed surface (hope that makes sense!)
