Yes plaster needs priming, but not with PVA, in any form.
Use a proper tiling primer like an SBR diluted as per instructions.
Better still, take guidance from the adhesive instructions that u intend to use.
That way if there is ever an issue then at least u've followed instructions.
Many primers are different colours, with that adhesive manufacturers can identify their products instantly.
So if u mix brands, they can walk away without responsibility.
