Discuss Wooden floorboards - what is best way to level it? in the Canada Tile Advice area at TilersForums.com.

Hi all,

So there’s a floor that needs tiling on the third floor of a house, they have taken up old floor and brought it back to the original 18mm floorboards.

These floorboards are very uneven, even after they have screwed them all down.

They want to lay porcelain floor tiles down.

Is this the best way forward;

Screw down all floorboards and prime.

Lay 9mm ply with flexible adhesive and screw at 100mm centres and leave a 2mm gap between the plywood for expansion and stagger joints.

prime ply.

lay self levelling screed around 4-6mm thick so the floor is completely flat.

prime screed then laytiles.

Is this waaaaay overkill or is the correct way to to get the subfloor sorted? There really is lots of dips in the floorboards, to many to pack out with adhesive when laying the tiles

Sorry for the long post ...

Many thanks!
