Discuss Yet another use for the almighty PVA in the British & UK Tiling Forum area at TilersForums.com.

Working with a plumber today, and he helped me carry a few bottles of latex plus up to the third floor bathroom where i was working today. Later when having a brew he said to me, why bother paying loads of dosh out for latex plus when you can use pva instead. After i had stopped coughing and spluttering from nearly choking on me tea, he added that he knows loads of tilers that use it, as they both have exactly the same ingredients. Now there is no way i'd use pva for anything in tiling, but i thought i would let you more experienced tilers have your say on this. This by the way is the same guy who told me last week, that i'd forgot to grout the internal corners.

I believe he's talking out of his jacksie....but I reckon you already knew that!
the next thing he'll say is 'a decent tiler would do that in a morning/get around that" etc.etc.etc...these people really get on my nerves...usually the same sort that 'do there own tiling'..I've seen it..it's rubbish..know all plumbers (not all of em..just the know alls!) should stick to what they do best..charging.

I agree jamie, i put some pics of a plumbers tiling work a while back, i'v now been and put 2 of his jobs right, then i got a phone call off of him asking if i could do a tiling job that he didn't have the time to do, i said i would as it would proberbly save me time and the customer money in the long run. I didn't get the job, but i let him know what i thought of his tiling work.

Nowt wrong with PVA, what you on about? I too don't know why you tilers spend loads on latex when the ingredients are exactly the same. It's crazy, especially since we're in a recession (unless you're the BBC, then the country is out of the recession).

PVA is brilliant. You can PVA your fingers, give it a minute, and then pull it off and you have a finger print on it. What else can do that AND be used for priming walls and floors whilst at the same time you can make a paper mashe balloon shaped head using a balloon, a news paper, and more PVA.

You should have loads of it on your van, it's brilliant.
