A couple of weeks ago I had very little on so rang a builder friend of mine to see if he had any labouring work. He gave me 3 days work and paid me £150 which was fine as I would have been sat at home otherwise. Anyhow, the job was a garage conversion and I was helping him batten and board the walls, the plumber he uses was there fitting 2 radiators and I got talking to him about work and if he had much on, he said yes and if I wanted I could tile the bathroom in his house (which I'm in the middle of) and if he was happy with the standard of work he'd pass all the tiling he gets my way. As a result of this he has given me 4 full bathrooms to do in the coming weeks. So it just goes to show, never turn down a job and never let pride get in the way of doing a job that you may think is not paid well enough for you and below your level of skill. You never know.

i'm the same way inclined bri, i was labouring for a guy i know on his new build 8 years ago (before i went full time tiling) and he sacked the tiler after a day because he messed a floor so i offered to do the tiling which he took up the offer. 4 full bathrooms and a large kitchen diner. i've had other work off it too and i had to redo the whole lot a few months ago as he had a major flood and the whole house was taken back to the blockwork.

So the marketing tip is to go and offer your services as a labourer to builders for £50/day ....that's not as bad an idea as it sounds initially

Not quite! Leads do come from the strangest places though and sometimes are very unexpected. I've got some spare time tonight so I'll follow up on my marketing idea that I was rattling on about the other day.
