tiling a bathroom this week thought it was geting a bit warm in the room just put it down to the lights and nice weather then disovered thermostats in each room for ceiling heating anyone else come across this I thought heat rised so whats the point

Sorry never heard of it, you saw thermostats, but do you actually know that they have a heated ceiling ? Or are you guessing ?
Cannot understand how it would work ? would have to be embedded in plaster otherwise if any higher would be above floor joists.
Really idea does not make sense to me :yikes:

Never ever ever heard of that, cant see how it would work, what is the ceiling made of.? as plaster would surely crack, can you take some pics of stat .? the only thing i have seen like that is a ceiling mounted body drying fan.( but trust me you would notice if it was one of these.

I've removed a few old 'electric bar' type heaters from bathrooms (sited above head height) but not in a modern houses

Ripped out a bathroom once which had one of the electric bar heaters over the door, it had a few hooks fitted to the ceiling in front of the heater,,,i asked the customer what the hooks were for and believe it or not my suspicions were confirmed, they hung towels up in front of it to dry. ( i kid you not).

These are called radiant panels

They do work well in the right conditions, most older hospitals, schools, colleges etc use them

The Ceiling Heating was probably carbon film and is normally rated at 200W/m2. The image below indicates how itis installed in the ceiling.

Don't know much more about it, apart from some installers tell me that it's a nightmare to install.:mad2::mad2:

Better to stick with the underfloor heating:thumbsup:

i've come across this system in some realy posh house's near us in warwickshire, it was supposed to be very efficient back then (18 years ago) in reality it was the opposite because of the obvious.....the system we came across was still live so when we cut the downlights in it gave the sparks a bump😳 the customer thought it was dead (not the sparky )and decided not to mention it as they had had central heating fitted ten years ago something to do with radiant heat and thermal current????

cosystone panel rads are a modern twist on the same theme i think???
