...state. I will likely pull it off and refit.......but with what?
Some say concrete board, some say plywood, some say moistureresistantplasterboard. And then what prep to the board (if any) before tiling.
The tiles are fairly heavy (they are actually floor tiles), so am thinking something...
...the ceiling, this section is to be skimmed and painted.
I intend to use aquapanels where the tiles are going and moistureresistantplasterboard above which will be skimmed.
How would you suggest sealing the joint where the aquapanel meats the MR plasterboard, - adhesive, grout, Silicon...
...rebuild, but not removing the shower walls, as I fitted cement boards when the wooden base was built.
I would use moistureresistantplasterboards for the rest of the walls, cement boards are great for the shower area!
All the tiles are ceramic in the main bathroom. In the ensuite the tiles...
You've more or less got it. As long as your new 4" x 2" frame is secured to your 35mm studs (to the side to take up less floor space), ceiling & floor with screws, noggins are glued (grip fill or pink grip) to your existing plasterboard & screwed to your uprights @ 400mm centres, you will not...
...skim with adhesive and remove the excess?
Sorry for all the dumb questions but this is the first bathroom I have done and have taken the advice given on here and held back until I could afford the Hardibacker instead of moistureresistantplasterboard, Mapei waterproofing kit etc.
Cheers,
Jon.
...waterproofed with a tanking system soon, so really you can use whatever you want on the walls. We tend to use moistureresistantplasterboard on the walls. It's pretty cheap and a good strong base to tile on.
Cutting plasterboard to fit the walls is pretty easy. You can score it on the front...
Hey up again.
A friend is doing his own plasterboarding prior to the tiling,
I was wondering if he should get some moistureresistant boards for the shower and bath wall, - it will be receiving mapegum as aswell. Will this be a pointless overkill?
What are aquapanels? Are they a good...

Hi. I've boarded a shower cubicle with moistureresistantplasterboard leaving a one inch gap at the top of the boards, should I fill the gaps with anything before tiling?
Also, just out of interest, if the top skim coats of plaster were coming away in places (like they were before I boarded)...
im starting mums new bath room this week im planning on putting the bath along side a stud wall
is it best to re please the stud wall with normal plaster board or use moistureresistant plaster board round the bath/shower im tiling it
im planning on plastering all the walls and lid first...
Why not take the walls down, re sheet with moistureresistantplasterboard & then tank (waterproof) the wet areas.
Its not too hard a job, you already have the stud work in place.
...a bit on the forums,I was considering three options
1)dot & dab with normal grade plasterboard
2)dot & dab with moistureresistantplasterboard
3)fit battens and fix cement based board e.g aquapanel etc.

Hi Richard & welcome to TF.
Your plastered walls will carry up to 20kg pm2 inc adhesive & grouts. If your shower area is also plastered, I'd defo recommend tanking this area.
Hardibacker is what I would use for the floor glued & screwed if on a timber substrate. If it were a concrete...
...new extension and I'm at odds with what to do with the floor. It's currently 18mm ply and the walls are boarded with moistureresistantplasterboard. It's not been plastered yet.
It will eventually be fitted with a shower enclosure using shower wall panels to two of the sides, glass to the...

hi daz,i would be happy with installing moistureresistantplasterboard and tanking the wet area
also if the floorboards are solid then sheet over with 6mm cement knauf boards and tile direct
...Around the window (which suffers from some condensation) the tiles were dot and dab fixed onto dot and dab fixed moistureresistantplasterboard - the fitter said this was OK because the cut tiles were smaller (upto about 300 x 300).
The bathroom looks great, but we are concerned that...
...shower is going on the wall above the bath to use with shower curtain, anyway the walls are stud walls with 12mm moistureresistantplasterboard attatched and my plasterer put a 3mm plaster skim over them, i asked him what prep i needed for fresh skimmed plaster and he said, you guessed it...
