Bathroom Prep Help - Skimmed Walls

I am sure there are loads of people who would do it and you are probably right, it more than likely wouldnt go anywhere, I guess as someone who isnt in the trade as such it makes it a bit daunting when doing something like this and there is a risk of it failing in a few months/years... I also...

Bathroom Prep Help - Skimmed Walls

Yip, dont see the insurance or trading standards being too interested when I say someone on a forum said it was ok so it must be true!! :D Been having a look at options on tiles and new tiles is going to be around 300 quid, so I think it outweighs the labour and materials to start again...

Bathroom Prep Help - Skimmed Walls

Forgot to ask - in terms of prep, walls are obviously skimmed and need to be primed, no problem there, do I need to key the plaster for a better bond or is priming sufficient?? Any thoughts on the Ultra Pro Flex S2 Ahesive? I used it for the underfloor heating and have a couple of bags left...

Bathroom Prep Help - Skimmed Walls

Hi Mate, Thanks for the reply. Yes I have weighed the tiles, just over 21kg/m2 for the tiles alone, chuck some addy and grout in and we at around 24 -25, which is why I am concerned. I would agree that most tilers have gone over at some point ans that BS are probably way over cautious, much...

Bathroom Prep Help - Skimmed Walls

Thats what I am starting to think, everything is pretty much ready for tiling, so not sure its worth ripping out again and starting fresh for the sake of a few quid on new tiles! Cheers

Bathroom Prep Help - Skimmed Walls

Which is a shame really. As consumers we should be able to trust and rely on trades for the right info and expect a decent quality job, if you pay decent money of course! Pay peanuts and you get Monkies they say!!

Bathroom Prep Help - Skimmed Walls

It would definitely get rid of the cowboys and the stupid and make customers happier, but that would be far too much to ask!

Bathroom Prep Help - Skimmed Walls

It does amaze me that some trades don't consider the other, life would be so much easier and in this instance cheaper too. Not sure what's wound me up more, the time and material I have already paid for to have it skimmed or the fact I'm going to have to fix the issue myself!

Bathroom Prep Help - Skimmed Walls

Thanks for the response, all makes sense. The insulated plasterboard has about a dozen mechanical fixings in it already so over boarding shouldn't be an issue the way you describe. To be honest I am going to have to do the work myself and weighing up the time and new materials against the cost...

Bathroom Prep Help - Skimmed Walls

Hi All, I have spent all day reading the forum but thought it best to ask the question direct for some feedback. We have an ensuite in our new extension which we are tiling, however, the builder has skimmed the entire room and did so before I knew the weight limits on skimmed walls etc...

Newbie Looking For Advice on Expansion Gaps With UFH System

So I decided to drop a quick email to Wundafloor technical regarding the application, crossing substrates and the need for expansion gaps, below is the response I got - Our first consideration is the transition between the concrete/floorboards section. We would hope to see it flat, stable and...

Newbie Looking For Advice on Expansion Gaps With UFH System

@Uheat - Jake thanks again. I was reading about those and considered them, unfortunately floor height is already set and bifold doors etc installed so any additional height is obviously going to cause us a hug problem, over and above the fact that we are already massively over budget and...

Newbie Looking For Advice on Expansion Gaps With UFH System

I am not sure how to tag you all individually, so bear with me. Thank you Jake for taking the time even though the system is not one of yours, I really do appreciate it. Starting to wish I had found this forum before I ordered the system. I did check Trust Pilot and there are a lot of positive...

Newbie Looking For Advice on Expansion Gaps With UFH System

Thank you all for the useful advice. I guess I havent got a choice at the moment other than to put expansion gaps between substrates and in doorways. Any suggestions on the best place to get a good expansion gap and what I should be looking for in particular? Thanks again

Newbie Looking For Advice on Expansion Gaps With UFH System

Technically I did not buy the system from Wundafloor direct, but the boards are Wundafloor branded, but I have actually called them to ask about the expansion gap requirement and the lad on the phone didnt have a clue what I was talking about. He basically said that the boards are EPS and wont...

Newbie Looking For Advice on Expansion Gaps With UFH System

I have read many of the threads and I am fully aware of the possible issues. I have also read a few threads where people have installed almost identical system without a problem. Unfortunately, as mentioned earlier, I am too far down the road to change it now, nor do I have the money to throw at...

Newbie Looking For Advice on Expansion Gaps With UFH System

The differrent colours are simply to differentiate the different pipe runs, the entire space would be running as a single zone though. I thought this would make more sense with it being a large open space and thought it would cause more problems to have different zones in such a large space

Newbie Looking For Advice on Expansion Gaps With UFH System

Forgot to add, the kitchen diners is approximately 6m x 4.5m and the sitting room is around 5m x 3.5 at the wides point... The instructions say to stick the EPS400 boards to the base, so although I dont see there being much expansion/movement in the boards themselves, I assume the expansion gap...

Newbie Looking For Advice on Expansion Gaps With UFH System

Hi All, I have attached (Hopefully) the downstairs floor plan ad the loopcad drawing which was given to me by the company I bought the system from. Things have changed slightly since the loopcad drawing was provided for us, we will not actually be running the underfloor heating into the shower...
