Do I need to seal unglazed PEI 5 porcelain

Ok I have come back to answer my own question but would still appreciate an experts view. I have done some tests with grass, coffee, oil(olive) sharpie pen, biro, vinegar, and left it on for 18 hours. And none it has left any mark whatsoever. I am also ding a water absorption test and so far after...

    Concrete grinding options

Thanks but I have a vac for the job and I may only need the the pad for 1 hour and then I do not mind it sitting in my tool box for a few years before I need it again. Equally I do not mind a very cheap one that will only last the one job. What I am worried about is a very cheap one...

    Concrete grinding options

Thanks chaps. The concrete area is normal mix with stones that was here when we brought but was a rough mess so I top dressed it with a sand and cement mix so do I actually need such an aggressive tool? That screwfix one unfortunately will not fit as it is a 125mm and my grinder is 115mm. Can...

    Concrete grinding options

There was nothing below - what were you linking to ?. The area is outside and I was planing on attaching a heavy duty vacuum cleaner either with a shroud - home made or positioning the vacume end near the flow of dust

    Concrete grinding options

I ned to grind down some concrete high spots to get a better level before I tile, mainly a sand and cement mix without any pebbles. What is the best attachment to use with my 115mm angle grinder. My research on here leads me to a Silicon carbide product, would this be any use --here as I...

How do I Join this 45 degree (ish)

Hmm - snow does get blown in and also rain on the outer edge but a whole drainage thing (perhaps ) is a little extreme - it is protected on 3 sides and has a roof that overhangs the tile area also the whole that side of the house faces away from the prevailing winds. I may yet abandon the whole...

How do I Join this 45 degree (ish)

Ok so a grout join, the slope needs grinding down in sections as some of it is curved and some is straight so after a little grinding I should get a better fit. So by mitring I am creating a continuous same size gap the full 7 mm depth of the tile, At the moment the tiles have a slight mitre in...

How do I Join this 45 degree (ish)

Thanks - do I leave a little gap to get something in there - grout or Silicon or do I butt both tight together. But if I did a tight butt join via a mitre I am worried about water getting in there and freezing. And what about expansion because if it was grout it would be a flexible one. By the...

How do I Join this 45 degree (ish)

I have a floor slope that I think I am going to tile with a PEI rating of 5 full bodied porcelain floor tile 7mm but how would you join the transition. I thought I would go with a quadrant but it does not work - as picture (but it will be stainless steel or aluminium ). Do I just do a grout join...

Do I need to seal unglazed PEI 5 porcelain

I think I have decided on my tile for an outdoor but mostly dry space protected on 3 sides but can have rain blown in - see picture. The tiles are PEI rating of 5 this full bodied porcelain and come unglazed. I then start reading about stains and sealing and start to doubt my choice (haven't...

    Need Help Choosing a Tile

As per my related thread I will be tiling an outdoor area, although outdoors it has a roof and 3 sides. The open side does get rain sometimes blown in onto it, also when being in the garden would have wet feet so it needs to be slip proof or lets say not overly slippery. I used to paint it with...

    Outdoor Tiling | Tiling outdoors

Thanks. we have had it like that for 19 years with the slope I used to paint it but have got fed up with re doing it so although the slope has been painted I think it has spent most of its time as bare concrete that is not slippy. Would like to keep as a slope. Taking up the whole 2.7x2.7 area...

I will be tiling an outdoor area, although outdoors it has a roof and 3 sides. The area is higher than the joining slabs with a slope which is on the the open side so it does get rain sometimes blown in onto it, also when being in the garden would have wet feet so it needs to be slip proof. What should I use to mark these?

Yes there is that but they are not so bad new BUT not after using it on concrete to plan your set outs. I brought a nice new one for the tiles and every time i grabed a pen it was the fat one that I ruined on the concrete
