    Sealing plasterboard/moisture resistant board

I once worked with a tiler. Who when tiling straight to plasterboard he would seal it as he said if any moisture got behind the tiles the paper could come off the front of the boards obviously effecting the tiles. Is this true? He used to seal it with I'm sure PVA, though I've heard this...

Tile expansion joint - small bathroom and boarded

...6mm cement board. Walls are a mixture of brick & stud that have been boarded with either foam tile backer board or moisture resistant plasterboard depending on area. For a room this size and with those features is an expansion joint necessary? If so, could it simply consist of filing where...

Bathroom started, wrong from the start? Advice appreciated please.

...all the boarding and replace it with 12mm hardiebacker as there's not much difference in price between that and moisture resistant plasterboard. and hardiebacker would be preferable for longevity. We are in our 50's, this is a bungalow and we want it to be right and last for decades not...

backer board advice for my bathroom

Why not use moisture resistant plasterboard again and tank the wet areas. It will hold 32kg per m2. Fix a timber from floor to ceiling where the shower screen will go to give yourself a good fixing.

This is really Poor setting out isn't it?

Cuts are atrocious. As above regarding lay out, difficult to say with out seeing the room as a whole. When setting out there are a number of obstacles you need to factor in, you need to have cuts at the perimeters, around windows, doors, baths, trays, shower valves etc. Sometimes it doesn't work...

Tiling on hardwall - is this a big no no?

You can not tile directly onto Thistle Hardwall. It either needs to be plastered with multifinish plaster (but you have weight issues as plaster can only hold 20kg per square meter) or you need to install moisture resistant plasterboard or a tiling board.

Need advice on waterproofing 3 bathrooms - seems a bad job

:) No point plastering plasterboard when tiling, it actually weakens the surface and defeats the object of moisture resistant plasterboard as you are covering it with a product that is not moisture resistant (plaster). Apply a tiling primer to boards and then waterproof. Also check the...

Tiling on hardwall - is this a big no no?

Thanks Trigger. The builder is arguing that we wont be tiling onto hardwall as there will be 3 coats of BAL All in One Plus Primer on top of the hardwall then we're tiling on top of the primer. I assume this still won't help? If it does, will there be a different weight limit as the hardwall is...

    Sealing plasterboard/moisture resistant board

I don't install panelling but if I was going to I would probably give a few coats of 1 SBR/ 4 water on the boards first

    Sealing Moisture resistant plasterboard

Hi Graham, you've raised an issue that I have posted a question about ie. 'tanking'. It seems that I'm the only amateur tiler who doesn't understand why we need to tank a shower wall before tiling! The experts tell me that water can penetrate grout and adhesive. That I understand, but, if water...

What tile adhesive should I use for large porcelain tiles?

...floor and 300x600 porcelain tiles (3.4kg a tile) for the wall, I know it will be powder tile adhesive required but I cant find any which states it would suit these tiles, it will need to be water resistant/ waterproof and these will be going onto moisture resistant plasterboard. Thanks in...

    Tiling on painted plasterboard

Hi, The first thing to do is check that the paint is fully bonded to the plasterboard. Do this by applying a strip of gaffer tape overnight and then rip it off. If the paint comes off, then it means that there is weak bond between the board and paint, and the background is generally unsuitable...

    Eeeek Advice appreciated please

Thank you so much for your advice, it's very helpful. Yes, floor is sound and dry. Its not plasterboard behind the tray.
