    Hi. No flexible adhesive will stop the tiles cracking. If the subfloor cracks , then these will crack the tiles as well. I always use an uncoupling mat. No ifs or buts. You could use one of the thinner mats so not to affect the finished tile height when you do the repairs

    There are 5.5 tiles to the mtr. Even with a small amount for adhesive etc. it will be fine.

    Hi. You don’t need to tank hardibackers. Use hardibacker joint tape on the joints for strength etc. nothing else. A wipe down with a sponge if dusty. Mapei or Bal poxys are easy to work with.
