    Uneven floor out by 60mm

my effort on my wonky old house from the days pre spirit levels!! Well, strictly speaking not fully my effort. i had to lift the floor due to the old shower leaking and added the noggins, rescrewed/bolted the exisitng, replace the furthest joist, add in the second furthest since it was missing...

    Wetroom tray setting out

Here is some before’s. Previous tray dropped due to a weak truss and badly repaired old stair well. We’ve been In the house 8 years, and I knew it wasn’t great, but didn’t expect the rot I encountered. Much strengthening and repairing of the floor that started back in March last year.

    Wetroom tray setting out

thanks for the kind words :) Said it before and i'll say it again. without the advice and fountain of knowledge within tilers forums i would either have gone for a more standard setup, or made a complete bodge of whatever route i took. From preparing the floor, strengthening it, using board and...

    Wetroom tray setting out

Getting there 😅 I have the walls set out pretty bang on, checked and double checked, but never considered the shower controls. took about 4 attempts. The third attempt was perfect and set aside in a safe place to fix, but stood on it ! Attempt 4 below🤬. cheap Homebase tiles. Lots of broken...

Will these floorboard cracks be a problem?

yup, all good. Definately pilot hole and countersink though 1576686006 over to the tiling Pro's!

Will these floorboard cracks be a problem?

not at all, easy to replace. The old screws are thinner, so all good. I'd use 5x50 countersunk woodscrews. Screwfix gold are quite good and inexpensive. Get a countersink bit while you are at it...

Will these floorboard cracks be a problem?

Basically any wood screw would be better. I wouldnt go less than 4 mm diameter. ideally 4.5 or 5mm. Drywall screws are 3.5mm diameter and not great for corrosion. used in a structual application they are thin and brittle and wont take any sheer load. Over time they will snap as the floor gets...

Will these floorboard cracks be a problem?

builder has used drywall screws by the looks of it. Not something i would be screwing floorboards down with.

    Patchy Mapei grout... any ideas?

I’m not an expert, but he seems to be almost grouting with adhesive. Are you just seeing the darker adhesive shining through on the finished bits?

    Wetroom tray setting out

Aye, in all honesty, this was just a little too much to take on at my level. Lots of time and patience and few errors along the way (plenty spare tiles). I should have heeded earlier advice. walls will be doddle compared to that bloody tray!! 1576183326 And one more thing Tony, those diamond...

    Wetroom tray setting out

walls are mid grey/brown colour and we’ve chosen Manhattan grey which should go well on both floors and walls. thanks for the comment, yes I tend to be over critical of my work regardless of what I do, so for now I only see the bits I could have done better, but yes, I’m pretty chuffed! Thank...

    Wetroom tray setting out

Drum roll please....... Not grouted yet, only just lifted the spacers and cleaned up the tray tonight. As far as setting out goes, and the subject matter, in a stoke of pure luck (correct I did not consider this when choosing!) we are perfectly symmetrical. it’s not perfect. A few little bits...

New Kitchen Floor - door join OK?

install a transition bar that slight wider than the door. it wont look out of place, and from the photo i think it will only poke out 5-10mm. One the same colour as the tiles also will barely be noticeable.

Damage to my tiles, can it be fixed?

i dont think drilling the holes have been the problem. you can see pretty far down the rawl bolts (the vertical slots) this is the part that should be deep inside and expanding inside the hole. With them not being deep enough they are expanding onto the tile and burtsting them. not only from...

    Wetroom tray setting out

Ok, so I’ve had some errands to run, and plenty cups of tea, but I’ve spent almost 2 days on cuts here. No adhesive as yet. It’s so easy to get into a bind with these hexagons, so I ive made sure everything fits first, especially each side of the drain then meeting at the top again. I have a...

Geez guys, you are making my head swell!! I wouldnt say its near the standard that i see in the JOTM entries, those are quality jobs from pro's at the top of their game, but you've certainly given me encouragement :) I was expecting - "wtf you doing with this that and the next bit!". Just...
