    Its very rare I use a baton these days. A short bit between a cooker on a splashback maybe. Laser level and cut in the bottom row is much faster

    Please check your ceiling is level, or at least find the highest point. One other option is to turn the floor tile up the wall, as a skirting tile, around 100-120mm..Full tiles up from this.

    Worktop not level

    It's only noticeably out of level once you put a spirit level on it. Cut them in level, and the kitchen will be noticeably out of level all of the time! I'd tile straight off the worktop. If you are using smallish tiles, it will be easy to lose 10mm or so, even easier if they are brick-bond
