Hi, we are getting our kitchen re-done and having the floor tiled. The previous owner has put 9mm ply down and used a vinyl over the top, however he’s plyed underneath the cabinets.
A few tilers have mentioned about using hardie backer but some have suggested ripping out the ply underneath. As...
Hi all, starting a wet room floor soon, have a few questions I would like some help with!
The floor has already been installed by a builder and has Hardi backer boards down, running up to the tray, but will need levelling before reaching it.
1. Hardi backer is not waterproof, so how does self...
It feels like there is a constant asking about the suitability of cement board in wet areas.
"Will they be ok in my wet room?" "Should I tank them?" etc etc etc
Can I attempt to clear up the confusion - much of which comes from the manufacturers and the builder's merchants who sell the stuff...

I was going to use hardie backer board this time.
18mm T&G existing floorboards.

Hi All
For my own sanity need to clarify that ProWarm BACKER-PRO Tile Backer Board 10mm is as suitable as hardibacker board.
After using hardie over wooden floors for the last few years I have run out of patience for it now. Its a great product but I find it messy, costly and time consuming...
Hi guys ,
Been to have a look at 4 bathroom floors for a builder and there is a hot water system under 6mm Hardi backer boards, never come across it before so I'm interested if any of you guys would consider tiling onto this and if so what would be your method of apllication as I was thinking...
Hi again guys. I'm on day 2 if tiling my mum's bathroom thanks to you all with help prep and layout which I'm happy with. However there is a couple of problems which I should have checked and asked about. Firstly the walls have been dot and dabed by the builder and screwed and plugged...

With hardie board can you lay ditra or tiles while the adhesive used for the hardie is still wet? I assume the screws will hold the hardie in place and am sure I've seen somewhere on a previous thread that this is the case?
Thanks
Quick question guys re 6mm hardie board going over 18 mm ply. I've been to 3 different topps tiles to get the 25mm hardie screws but they only have the 32mm which are too long. (Pipes etc). Can you use 20 or 25 mm turbo gold screws. I'm sure I saw something on here where some tilers do. Thanks
Usually if my sigma is on the job I cut my hardi with that it's quick easy and accurate or if not I scribe it a million times and snap it but having just treated my self to a bosch GAS 35 AFC M I was wondering has anyone used one of them fancy blades in a circular saw attached to the dust...
I tiled an L shape bathroom floor 5 months ago and long cracks have appeared at 800mm centres striaght over the Hardiebacker joins.
I've never had any cracks through tiles since 6 years ago when i used to tile on 12mm ply.
The tiles are 300mm British ceramic.
House was built 1984, standard...
has anyone used this stuff , rather than hardi backer board for floors ?
Rather than use thinset it comes with its own adhesive in a silicon tube , also comes with a lifetime guarentee
Tiles merchants near me has started stocking it so wonder if it's any good ?
Thanks
Hi all have recently been to see a job that I was reccomended for ...the existing tiles are coming up due to a leak in the kitchen the base is ply . only a quarter of the area is lifting ....do I rip up the damaged ply replace like for like or go with taking all ply up replacing for hardie then...
i use a fair amount of hardi backer and while it's great stuff it's also a massive pain in the arse.
Heavy
Horrible to cut
Worse to cut holes in
Then there's fixing it
The screws are awfull
Fixing is my biggest gripe by a mile where it is so hard it sometimes does not pull in to the stud work...
Afternoon
I know this is a similar thread to one already started however slightly different so warrants a new thread?!
I have a 'Sun Room' floor to tile in a 1st floor extension.
The floor is softwood floorboards with no obvious deflection & the tiles are 900mm plank wood effect porcelains.
I...
One of my suppliers is going over from stocking Hardie to NMP
So I am in the process of looking up info on NMP and comparing the two if that is possible.
Now most people are aware of the fact that you have to be careful when cutting Hardie as regards the dust when cutting the boards. But there...
Think I've been under charging for prep work to make sure I get to do it and know it's done right.
What do people charge supply and fit?
I'm figuring around £30 m² should be about fair
Any thoughts
If this has been asked before I apologise, maybe someone can point me to a thread that covers this. I see many posts where tilers mention that, on wood, they don't tile without putting ditra down first and other posts mention just backer board or ply/backerboard. The question is when is it best...
